RE: SLIDE FOR CONTENTIOUS PROBATE PROCEEDINGS WEBINAR

Dear Members of the Perak Bar and Pupils in Chambers,

Pursuant to section 16(1) of the Legal Profession Act 1976 (“LPA”), a petitioner who is applying to the High Court (“Court”) for admission and enrolment as an advocate and solicitor is required to serve on, among others, the State Bar Committee of the State in which a pupil has served any part of his period of pupillage a copy of the petition to Court, verified by an affidavit together with exhibits of documents (Forms 1 to 8) as enumerated in section 15 of the LPA (“pupillage documents”).

In light of the new normal and with immediate effect, the Perak Bar Committee will accept service of pupillage documents with a covering letter via email until further notice. Pupillage documents can be emailed to perakbar@gmail.com.

The Perak Bar Committee will then acknowledge receipt on the covering letter and return it via email to the petitioner. The said acknowledgment can then be exhibited by the petitioner in an affidavit of service for filing in Court.

However, pupils who wish to serve pupillage documents by mail, courier service or personal service may continue to do so.

Pupils are advised to seek assistance and guidance from the Perak Bar Secretariat staff prior to the filing of pupillage documents to ensure that their papers are in order.

For further enquiries, kindly contact the Perak Bar Secretariat at 05-2415457.
