UPDATES FROM THE PERAK BAR COMMITTEE
EGM ON 10.5.2023
The Bar Council has vide Circular No: 124/2023 dated 27.4.2023 informed of the holding of an Extraordinary General Meeting on 10.5.2023 at 2.00pm at Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang, KL to discuss the “Motion on the Independence of the Judiciary and Upholding the Rule of Law” pursuant a requisition by 173 members. All members of the Perak Bar are urged to make a concerted effort to attend the EGM and to participate actively in the issues to be discussed. Bar Council is prepared to provide a subsidy for transportation arranged by the State Bar. Kindly provide your names to the Secretariat if you are interested to attend the EGM and travel via the transportation which can be arranged provided at least 20 members have signed up.
2. HARI RAYA CELEBRATIONS
As we join hands with our Muslim brethren in strengthening bonds amongst us, the Perak Bar Committee has planned to organise a gathering on May 20th 2023 to celebrate HARI RAYA. More information will be made known in due course. As always, participation by all is much anticipated in order to ensure the success of this celebration.
3. MEETING WITH LPHP
The Conveyancing Sub Committee will be having a meeting with LPHP and invites members who have faced/ are facing issues/ problems in dealing with LPHP, to bring these matters to the attention of the said Sub Committee at perakbar@gmail.com , latest by 15.5.2023
4. TOUTING
Members are advised to take note of the Bar Council’s serious views on this matter as set out in Circular No:075/2023 dated 14.3.2023 issued by the Vice President. Kindly be guided accordingly.
5. INVITATIONS TO PROVIDE ARTICLES
Members are invited to provide their very own written article, anecdotes and views on matters related to the practise of law, to be shared amongst other members of the Perak Bar. Kindly forward to perakbar@gmail.com and the Perak Bar Committee reserves the right to decide whether to publish same , which decision will be final and conclusive. Do take note that the intention is to provide an avenue for junior and senior members to showcase their initiative and views on any given subject related to law.
6. ARTICLE ON CAVEATS ( NLC 2020- Act 828)
For the benefit of junior members and pupils in chambers, in particular, the Conveyancing Practice Committee of the Bar Council has issued Circular No. 121/2023 dated 20.4.2023 with a general overview on the types , characteristics and effects of each caveat. Kindly refer to same.
