As we cross over into the second half of the year, the Perak Bar Committee continues efforts to engage, disseminate information and carrying out activities for the benefit of members. Kindly take note of the following which will be of relevance to all:-

1. SOLICITORS REMUNERATION ORDER 2023

 
This highly anticipated and much welcomed Order was gazetted on 12.7.2023 and came into effect on 15.7.2023. Kindly refer to the Circular No. 185/2023 issued by Bar Council which makes reference to and provides for the new Order. The implementation of the SRO 2023 is the culmination of the hard work put in by the members of the Solicitors Costs Committee, Bar Council Conveyancing Practice Committee.

2. PROGRAM JELAJAH KEHAKIMAN NEGERI PERAK

 
This event spans 2 days ie 12^th & 13^th August 2023 and is to be held at Mydin Meru Mall, Jelapang, Ipoh . This programme was officially launched by YAA the Chief Justice on 19.7.2022 and is an initiative of the Badan Kehakiman Malaysia aimed at promoting legal awareness among the public and showcases the products/ services of other agencies and government bodies such as PDRM, Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara, Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia, Insolvency Department, Jabatan Bantuan Guaman and the Bar Council, just to name a few.
 
Members are invited to visit the various booths at the programme and to take advantage of the services offered by the agencies thereat.

3. COURT MATTERS

 
(a) Members are encouraged to write in to the Perak Bar Committee ( Court Liasion Sub Committee) to inform of any issue pertaining to Court practice. Issues of particular concern can be escalated by Mr BK ,Ms Sheanna or me, who sit as members of the Court Liasion Committee  ( CLC) at the Bar Council, for resolution. In this way, the lack of Tamil and Chinese interpreters has already been notified to the CLC who in turn have brought this to the attention of the authorities concerned at the regular meetings.

(b) Members are also to take note that the e-review system is currently in the process of being upgraded, which will seek to allow pupils in chambers to attend case managements online.

4. 
   
   SOCIAL/ SPORTS ACTIVITIES

 
After the successful participation by members of the Perak Bar at the Interstate Bar Games (ISBG) in July, several activities are in the planning by the Sports and Social Chairs respectively, which will include a Yoga session, a Fun Run to be jointly organised with several other professional bodies, a health screening and blood donation campaign and the Perak- Penang Bar Games- dates to be announced soon. Do come and fully support these activities which are planned for your active participation.

5. OFFICIAL PERAK BAR T SHIRT and CAP

 
The Committee is in the midst of finalising details for an official T Shirt and Cap to be made available for purchase by members of the Perak Bar. Further information on this will follow.

6. MEET UP FOR A CHAT

 
Several members of the Perak Bar Committee will be at the Bar Room , High Court Ipoh  on TUESDAY 25.7.2023 between 10.30 AM until 11.30 AM to meet up with members. Do drop by to have a drink and chat with us and feel free to bring up personally any issue pertaining to Perak Bar, that you feel is necessary.
