CIRCULAR TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE PERAK BAR

Dear Members,

RE : INVITATION TO SERVE ON THE PANEL OF SOLICITORS FOR THE MALAYSIAN BAR MANDATORY PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY INSURANCE SCHEME

The Perak Bar wishes to bring to the attention of members an Invitation announced by the Bar Council for suitably qualified members of the Malaysian Bar to apply to serve on the Panel of Solicitors for the Malaysian Bar Mandatory Professional Indemnity Insurance (“PII”) Scheme.

The Insurer for the PII Scheme is currently seeking to appoint solicitors to its panel to manage claims relating to the Scheme.

This presents a worthwhile opportunity, particularly for members with substantial litigation experience and an interest in insurance, professional indemnity and related claims.

The Bar Council has informed that applicants should, among other requirements:

1. have a minimum of 15 years’ litigation experience and be practising in a partnership with the necessary support infrastructure;
2. be able to personally handle assignments entrusted to them, as the appointment is personal to the individual member;
3. have experience in insurance claims generally and professional indemnity claims in particular;
4. be familiar with the structure of the PII Scheme and its policy documents;
5. be familiar with the relevant legislation and case law, particularly cases concerning professional indemnity “claims made” policies; and
6. indicate any particular areas of specialisation which may be relevant to certain types of claims.

Applications should be submitted directly to the Bar Council, together with the applicant’s curriculum vitae and firm profile, and the information requested in the Bar Council’s circular No.317/2026, on or before 25 September 2026 (Friday).

Please note that the Bar Council is not involved in the selection or appointment of panel solicitors. The Bar Council is assisting the Insurer only by compiling a list of applicants for consideration. The Insurer will contact successful applicants directly regarding the requirements and guidelines applicable to panel solicitors.

I encourage eligible members, particularly our more senior litigators with relevant experience, to give this Invitation serious consideration. Apart from providing an avenue to contribute to the administration of the PII Scheme, appointment to such a panel would also provide valuable exposure to a specialised area of professional practice.
