Re : 37th LAWASIA Conference from 13 to 15 October 2024 at Hilton Kuala Lumpur

Kindly be informed that the Malaysian Bar and LAWASIA will be hosting the 37th LAWASIA Conference from 13 to 15 October 2024 at Hilton Kuala Lumpur. The theme of the conference is “Navigating the Legal Landscape in the Digital Age”. It aims to shed light on the realities of practising in an era that must embrace technology moving forward, and appropriate policies to be put in place, both collectively and individually, to ready ourselves in terms of preservation of the dignity of the legal eco-system for a future that focuses on innovation, digitalisation, and specialisation.
 
The conference comprises five streams focusing on Business Law, Tech in Specific Disciplines, Human Rights and Rule of Law, Environmental Law, and Specialist Topics. It also features 30 working sessions and 3 plenary sessions, covering a broad range of topics on current and future challenges as well as opportunities in the legal landscape, such as Promoting the Environmental and Social Agenda: The Impact of Green and ESG Bonds; Digital Belt and Road and the Technology Era in the Asia-Pacific Region; Navigating Privacy and Data Protection Challenges in the Age of AI; Transboundary Environmental Harm; Tax Transformation and Digitalisation; Use of AI in Law Enforcement; Empowering Women in the Legal Profession: Bridging the Gender Gap, and many more to be confirmed.
 
The conference will also feature distinguished guest speakers, such as YAA Tun Tengku Maimun binti Tuan Mat, Chief Justice of Malaysia, who will deliver the Opening Address, and YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, who will deliver the Keynote Address.
 
The Perak Bar Committee has agreed to sponsor a selected number of Members of the Bar and  “Pupils in Chambers” to attend this Conference. Priority will be given to Young Lawyers below 5 years in practice. The sponsorship is for the registration fee only and will not cover accommodation and travel. Do take note that the registration fee is AUD$700.
 
Please TAKE NOTE that successful applicants will be required to prepare a short report in respect of the said Conference. The said report will be published at the Perak Bar website / Perak Bar Facebook. Selected participants will also be required to attend the entire full three days of the conference, failing of which participants will be requested to refund the said registration fees sponsored by Perak Bar.
