RE : MYBAR LAW CARE

We refer to the above matter.

The MyBAR Law Care Committee recently organized a talk at the Perak Bar Auditorium on 11 November 2024. The session was conducted by Puan Murshidah Mustafa, Secretary of the Malaysian Bar.

The primary objective of MyBAR Law Care is to provide financial assistance to lawyers and their families in times of need due to death, illness, or disability. This includes:

• Financial assistance for partial and permanent disability or total and permanent disability caused by illness, disease, or accidents.
• A payment of RM40,000 to the next-of-kin in the event of the death of a Member of the Malaysian Bar.
• Separate funding of up to RM40,000.00 for repatriation of the deceased’s body (if the deceased passed away somewhere else and require the body to be repatriated to the hometown).

Upon being informed of the death of a Member, the Bar Council will send a letter of condolence to the family along with a checklist of required documents to assist with the insurance claim. Provided all documents are in order and a nominee has been named, the payment to the next-of-kin is usually processed within two months.

Importance of the Beneficiary/Trustee Form

Please note that delays may occur if the deceased Member did not complete the “Malaysian Bar Member’s Beneficiary/Trustee Form.” This form is crucial for determining the rightful recipient of the insurance funds.

We urge all Members of the Perak Bar who have not yet submitted this form to do so immediately to ensure a smoother process for your next-of-kin in the event of any untoward incident.

Additionally, Members who have previously submitted the form are advised to re-submit if:

• You cannot recall the name of your nominee.
• You wish to update or change your nominee.

The completed form can be submitted to either the Perak Bar Secretariat or the Bar Council directly.
