RE: DECORUM AND ATTIRE DURING ZOOM PROCEEDINGS

To Members and Pupils in Chambers,

In respect of the above matter, it has recently been brought to the attention of the Perak Bar Committee by the Judiciary that some counsels as well as their clients have failed to adhere to the proper decorum and attire when appearing during Zoom proceedings.

Instances of such failures highlighted by the Judiciary includes, appearing in Zoom proceedings while driving, being on the bed, cooking and so forth. Further, clients were found not properly attired befitting the solemnity of appearing in Zoom proceedings which for all intent and purposes is equivalent to open court proceedings.

Therefore, the Perak Bar Committee would like to reiterate that counsels as well as their clients when appearing during Zoom proceedings must observe decorum by ensuring that their Zoom environment is quiet and appropriate befitting the solemnity of court and that both counsels as well their clients are dressed appropriately as they would appear in open court proceedings.

Further, please be advised that the camera should be positioned in such a manner that the entire face and shoulders of the party appearing should be visible in the video as there have also been complaints of lawyers and their clients failing to position themselves correctly during online proceedings.

Regards.
