RE: PERAK BAR MEDIATION CENTRE 

We refer to the above matter.

Perak Bar with a view to promoting Mediation as an alternative method of dispute resolution in line with the view taken by the Judiciary intends to set up a Mediation Centre in Ipoh. To achieve that goal, we would naturally need to have more Mediators.

To create more Mediators the Perak Bar in collaboration with Malaysian International Mediation Centre (MIMC) intends to run a 5-day Mediation Course specifically in Ipoh for its Members and Pupils in Chambers, details of which are as follows:

a) Date – 16^th July to 20^th July, 2025;

b) Days – Wednesday to Sunday;

c) Time – 8.00 am to 6 pm;

d) Location – to be confirmed.

To run this 5- day course the fees charged by MIMC is RM12,000.00 which does not include the cost of providing food and accommodation for at least 10 to 12 trainers, coaches and assessors, venue and materials. Although the minimum number of participants required for MIMC to conduct the said Course is 15 however the total number of participants will determine the ultimate fees to be paid by each participant as the costs will be defrayed by all the participants. The more participants, the less each participant must pay. Assuming if only 15 Members signed up for the said Course, we anticipate the fees to be around RM2,000.00 per participant. However, if we have 30 participants than the fees will around RM1,000.00 per participant (this are tentative figures).

The benefits of attending the 5-day Course in Ipoh is that you will be able to save time and cost because the alternative route to becoming a Mediator is to attend the Mediation Course organized by MIMC which will entail a 56-hour mediation workshop. The MIMC organized Course is split into a 2- day Introduction to Mediation Course and 5-day Advanced Mediation Skills Training Course. The total fees for the 2 and 5-day Course will be around RM2,600.00 to RM2,800.00. Also, after the 5-day Course and passing a practical assessment, you will be accredited to the MIMC’s Panel of Mediators without needing to attend the 2-day Introductory course. 

Therefore, please let us know, by 6.6.2025 if you intend to attend the Course as we need time to organize the same if we have the required numbers.
