CONGRATULATIONS TO MR BALAKRISHNA BALARAVI PILLAI, FORMER CHAIRMAN OF THE PERAK BAR AND CO – DEPUTY CHAIRPERSON OF THE BAR COUNCIL PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS AND AWARDS COMMITTEE (“PICA”), ON THE LAUNCH OF THE 2026 COMPENDIUM ON PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS AND AWARDS

The Perak Bar extends its warmest congratulations to Mr. Balakrishna Balaravi Pillai (BK Pillai), former Chairman of the Perak Bar and Co-Deputy Chairperson of the Bar Council Personal Injury Claims and Awards Committee (“PICA”), on the successful launch of the 2026 Compendium on Personal Injury Claims and Awards, which was officially launched on 13 July 2026 at the Palace of Justice, Putrajaya.

The publication of the 2026 Compendium marks a significant milestone for the Malaysian legal profession. It is the culmination of three years of dedicated work undertaken by PICA, in collaboration with the Judiciary, to comprehensively review and update the 2018 Compendium, ensuring that it reflects current judicial trends, evolving legal principles and contemporary approaches in the assessment of damages in personal injury claims.

The revised Compendium provides updated guidance, introduces new categories where appropriate, and refines existing principles to better serve the Bench, the Bar, insurers and all stakeholders involved in personal injury litigation. It will undoubtedly stand as an authoritative and practical reference, contributing towards greater consistency, fairness and certainty in the assessment of damages.

The Perak Bar takes particular pride in Mr BK Pillai’s outstanding contribution to this landmark publication. As a former Chairman of the Perak Bar, he has consistently exemplified excellence, professionalism and dedicated service to the legal profession. His leadership and commitment as Co-Deputy Chairperson of PICA, together with his fellow committee members, have culminated in a publication that will benefit both the legal fraternity and the administration of justice for years to come.

On behalf of the Committee and members of the Perak Bar, we record our sincere appreciation and heartfelt congratulations to Mr BK Pillai on this remarkable achievement. We also extend our congratulations to PICA’s Chairman, Mr. Ravinder Singh Dhalliwal and Co-Deputy Chairman, Mr. Kenneshwaran Kandiah and all members of PICA whose collective efforts have made the launch of the 2026 Compendium a resounding success.
